This study aims to examine the effect of zakat collection and distribution on poverty in North Sumatra. The sample of this research is data on the collection and distribution of zakat in the province of North Sumatera which was obtained from BAZDASU. The sampling method used is purposive sampling method. The hypothesis testing of this study was carried out by linear regression method consisting of one linear regression equation model. The results of this study indicate that the distribution of zakat has no effect on poverty. The distribution of zakat in North Sumatera itself is still consumptive, while to maximize the function of zakat itself in order to be able to alleviate poverty and improve the people's welfare of the people in North Sumatera is to maximize zakat productively.en_US
