    Abstract
Solar energy is a renewable alternative energy that is used to produce electricity by applying the photovoltaic effect (PV). The output power of the PV system can be optimized by operating the PV system using the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique. This method requires a dc-dc converter and an algorithm to work properly. In this research, a comparative study was conducted between the dc-dc buckboost converter and the dc-dc cuk converter as a voltage controller in MPPT. Perturb and observe algorithms in MPPT are used as a search for maximum power points from the output power of the PV system. Analysis of the two dc-dc converters was carried out through simulations in the PSIM software. The PV system is designed in the form of a 3sx6p PV array system (three in series with 6 in parallel) using the GH160M-36 PV Module as a reference for the PV module applied to the PV system. The simulation is carried out in two stages, in conditions without shading or standard test conditions and partial shading conditions. In partial shading conditions, shading patterns are applied which are tested by receiving different radiation variations. The results of the simulation trials carried out are in the form of a power versus time curve. From this curve it can show the values of power, voltage, current and time which will be reviewed when the power point at the peak time and the power point at the steady state time is reached. To find power points at peak times, PV systems that use MPPT with buckboost converter can reach power points at peak times in less time than PV systems that use MPPT with cuk converter. Meanwhile, for finding power points at steady state time, PV systems using MPPT with buckboost converter are more reliable because these systems require less time than PV systems using MPPT with cuk converter. This applies to conditions without shading or with partial shading.
