    Abstract
Fatigue is a warning mechanism of the body that something has disturbed the body which can only be recovered by taking a rest (Tarwaka, 2019). It has become one of the enabling factors of job accident which caused around two million workers to die each vear and 18,828 workers (32.8%) of the 58,115 workers suffered from fatigue (ILO, 2018). The objective of the research is to analyze the effects of physical and mental work load and energy intake on nurses’ work fatigue in the inpatient wards at dr. Pirngadi Hospital, Medan. This quantitative research use cross sectional design. The samples consist of 63 nurses in the inpatient wards, selceetd by using proportional random sampling technique. Work fatigue is measured by using reaction timer device, physical work load was measured by using pulse calculation, mental work load is assessed by using questionnaire on NASA-TLX, and energy intake is measured by using questionnaire on estimated food record. The data are analyzed by using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with Pearson correlation test, and multivariate analysis with multiple linear regression tests. The result of Pearson correlation test showed that there is a significant effect of physical work load (p=0.001, r=0.424), mental work load p=0.002, r=0.385), and energy intake (p=0.0005, r=-0.477) on work fatigue. The result of multiple linear regression tests shows that R-square value is 0.412 or 41.2%. It is concluded that 41.2% of the cause of work fatigue can be explained through the variables of physical work load, mental work load, and energy intake in the nurses in the inpatient wards at dr. Pirngadi Hospital, Medan
