One alternative use of rice husk waste is to process rice husks into biochar as a soil conditioner. Biochar is black charcoal resulting from the process of heating biomass in conditions of limited or no oxygen. Biochar is an organic material that has stable properties and can be used as a soil conditioner for dry land.
The pre-designed factory for making bio-char from rice husks using a slow pyrolysis process has a production capacity of 10.000 tons/year and operates for 330 days a year. The amount of rice husks required to reach annual production capacity is 3,996.67 kg/hour.
This factory for making bio-char from rice husks using a slow pyrolysis process is planned to be established in Galang District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province. The land area required is 7,475.5 m2. The planned form of company organization is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational structure, and a total of 109 employees.
The results of the economic analysis on the pre-design of this factory are as follows:
Total Investmen Capital = Rp 240.240.409.549
Total Production Cost = Rp 155.944.399.982
Sales Proceeds = Rp 230.151.002.400
Net Profit = Rp. 74.206.602.418
Profit Margin (PM) = 31,598%
Break Event Point (BEP) = 40,048%
Return On Investment (ROI) = 22,134%
Pay Out Time (POT) = 4 year 6 month
Internal Rate Of Return = 36,89%
From the results of the economic aspect analysis, it can be concluded that a factory for making bio-char from rice husks is feasible to establish.
