dc.description.abstractThis coal tar refining plant to produce toluene has a production capacity of 14,500 tons/year and operates for 330 days a year. The main process in this plant design consists of separating components contained in coal tar such as benzene, toluene, pyridine, m-xylen, 4-methylpyridine, phenol, and cresol by entrainer-assisted pressure-swing distillation (EA-PSD) method to separate toluene and pyridine. The amount of coal tar required to achieve the annual production capacity is 6.659, 135kg/hour. The specific task completed was the detailed engineering design of the distillation tower to purify toluene. The designed distillation tower has the following specifications: • Number of tray : 17 tray • Inlet feed tray : 9th tray from bottom • Height of Distillation Tower : 8,952 m • Diameter of Distillation Tower : 0,864 m • Distillation column shell material : Carbon steel SA-283 grade C • Thickness of distillation column shell : 3/16 in • Thickness of distillation column head : 3/16 in • Distillation column tray material : Stainless steel The coal tar refining plant to produce toluene is planned to be established in Blora Regency, Central Java Province, with a total plant area of 17,550 m2. The water requirement for this plant is supplied from Bengawan Solo River as much as 4,700.553 kg/hour. The planned form of company organization is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational structure, and a total of 190 employees. The results of the economic analysis on this plant proposal are as follows: • Capital Investment (CI) = Rp 529.456.039.793 • Total Cost (TC) = Rp 238.713.484.696 • Profit Margin (PM) = 47,596 % • Break Even Point (BEP) = 43,927 % • Return on Investment (ROI) = 30,114 % • Return On Network (RON) = 50,190 % • Pay Out Time (POT) = 3 tahun 4 bulan Internal Rate of Return (IRR) = 26,618% Based on the results of the economic analysis, it can be concluded that the coal tar refining plant to produce toluene is feasible to establish.en_US
