Medan City is a city that has a high population density. According to data from the
Medan City Central Statistics Agency (BPS) (2022), the population of Medan City
reaches 2,460,858 people. The transportation sector plays a very large role and has the
potential to pollute the air compared to other sectors. Sihombing (2017) said that large
cities contribute 60-70% of motor vehicle exhaust, industrial production is around 10-
15% and the rest comes from household activities, burning rubbish, forest fires and so
on. The number of vehicles in Medan City has reached 288,378 units (BPS 2022).
According to Basalamah (2020), performance analysis of the intersection of Rajawali
street, Merak street, Kasuari street in Sei Sekambing B Village, Medan Sunggal. The
district has a busy time on Monday 16 July 2018 at 16.00-18.00 WIB with calculations
every 15 minutes within 2 hours. The analysis results obtained show that this location
has a degree of saturation (DS) = 1.06, which means it has caused traffic jams. Research
is needed on Air Quality Analysis and Carbon Monoxide (CO) Emission Load Due to
Motor Vehicles at the Intersection of Gatot Subroto street, Medan City.
Based on the calculation results, the highest Carbon Monoxide (CO) emission load on
Gatot Subroto was at TS-2, namely 67.20 g/hour, while the lowest emission load was at
TS-16, namely 41.81 g/hour during the daytime measurement. The highest emission
load on Kapten Muslim was the highest value at all sampling points, namely 120.03
g/hour during the afternoon measurement time and the lowest emission load was TS-12,
namely 84.91 g/hour during the afternoon measurement time. Then, the highest
emission load on Sunggal was on TS-6, namely 35.33 g/hour during the afternoon
measurement, while the lowest emission load was on TS8, namely 24.15 g/hour during
the morning measurement.
