Quite high rainfall and the inability of drainage to accommodate rainwater
are blamed for causing flooding. Especially in the Jalan Tuamang area. This
problem was raised due to the frequent occurrence of floods and high levels of
rainwater in the area, especially during the rainy season. Given this problem, an
evaluation of the capacity of the drainage channels will be carried out, one of which
is by repairing and re-planning the dimensions of the channels in the Jalan Tuamang
drainage to accommodate flood discharge.
This research began in the even semester of the 2022-2023 academic year
and the case study was carried out in the Jalan Tuamang area, Medan Tembung
District, Medan City. Data collection in this research included primary data in the
form of existing drainage system data and flow condition data and secondary data
in the form of maximum daily rainfall data from BMKG Sampali and Helvetia. In
this study, the log person III distribution was used and the rainfall intensity value
obtained using the mononobe formula for a 10 year return period was 143.67
mm/hour.
From the results of the evaluation of the planned flood discharge for a 10
year return period using the rational method, Qr₁ = 4,522 m3 /sec and Qr₂ = 4,354m3
/sec. By calculating the existing channel capacity, we get Qs₁ = 3,396 m3/sec and
Qs₂ = 0.6426 m3/sec. Based on the results of the comparison of channel discharge
and plan discharge above, it can be seen that the existing drainage channel 1 cannot
accommodate flood discharge, because the plan discharge is greater than the
channel discharge. Then drainage channel 2 also cannot accommodate flood
discharge. In this case, it can be overcome by re-planning the drainage channels.
