Kajian Kualitas Air Sungai dan Upaya Pengendalian Pencemaran (Studi Kasus : Sungai Asahan di Kawasan Kota Tanjungbalai)

Abstract

Asahan River in Tanjungbalai is used for various activities in plantation, farming, husbandry, MCK (bathing, washing, and defecating) facility, hospitals, hotels, residences, and industries which can cause the decrease in the water content of the river. The objective of the research is to analyze the quality and the status of the water of Asahan River in Tanjungbalai area and to organize the strategy of controlling the pollution to prevent the decerease in of the water quality. The sample of water in the stations of taking the water are taken by using purposive sampling technique. The samples are taken in six location, based on the local people’s activities in three times. The data in analyzed by using water quality analysis with IP (Pollution Index) method and analysis on the strategy of handling water pollutions. The results of the analysis on the water quality based on pollution in Asahan River of Tanjungbalai shows that the mean water pollution index is categorized as fairly polluted. The pollution is caused by the parameter of phosphate, detergent, oil, fat, the total coliform which have exceeded the threshold of quality standard. The strategic position of internal and external factors was in quadrant I (positive,positive).
