| dc.description.abstract | Geographical indication is a sign indicating the area of origin of goods and/or products
which are produced. These goods and/or products may have reputation, quality, and certain
chura.-::teristics due to geographical environmental factors including natural
factors, human factors, or a combination of both. Honey pineapple is one of the superior products
in Siak Regency which can support the economy of the people in Siak Regenc·y.Unfortunately, it has
not been registered as a geographical indication although it has the potential to be
registered as a geogrqprical indication considering the characteristics of this honey
pineapple differs frcm other pineapples in order to obtain legal protection. The problems
discussed in this thesis are first, the criterias for Siak honey pineapple as the
potential product as a geographical indication in Siak Regency according to Law Number 20 of
2016 concerning Trademarks and Geographical Indications; second, the readiness of the
local government and the community in registering Siak honey pineapple as a product that
has the potential to be a geographical indication in Siak Regency; and third, the obstacles in
registering honey pineapple as the potential product as a geographical indication in Siak Regency.
� This is an empirical juridical type of research where the data source is obtained
from primary legal materials, secondary legal materials, and tertiary legal materials. The
data are collected through library research and field research by conducting interviews and
data collection tools are document studies and interview guidelines. The data are analyzed in
qualitative data analysis.
The results of this study inC:icate that Siak honey pineapple meets the requirements as
a geographical indication product accordin5 10 the Trademark and Geographical Indication Law
so that it gets legal protection for geographical indications if it has been registered
with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights, considering the characteristicsthat
this honey pineapple differ
from other types of pineapples. The readiness of the local government to register Siak
honeypineapple as a geographical indication is still unseenand currently, the public does not
even know what a geographical indication is, moreover the importance of a geographical
indication. Obstacles in registering honeypineapple as a product of geographical indications
are lack of information from the government, lack of understanding and lack of public
awareness of the importance of protecting geographical indications, the absence of community
organizations to protect geographical indications, and the existence of other pineapples that
