    Abstract
Background: The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assay is the gold standard diagnostic test for the COVID-19. The Ct value has a correlation with the severity of COVID-19 which low Ct value is associated with high SARS-CoV-2 viral load and high mortality rate. In addition to Ct value, chest X-ray is useful for monitoring the progress of COVID-19 patients due to its accessibility and fast processing. Objectives: This study is to analyse the relationship between chest X-RAY findings, Ct value and the severity of COVID-19 in hospitalized children at the Haji Adam Malik Hospital Medan. Methods: This cross-sectional study collected 78 medical records subject data during the period September 2021-December 2022 which include demographic data, clinical data, Ct value, the severity of COVID-19, chest X-rays and outcomes. The relationship between the Ct value and chest X-ray to the severity of disease was assessed using statistical analysis. P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: This study showed that level of Ct value did not have a significant relationship to the severity of COVID-19 as indicated by p value of 0.573 and 1.000 respectively. In addition, there was no significant relationship between the chest X-RAY findings and the severity of COVID-19 (p=0.351) with the Prevalence Ratio (PR) 1.973. Conclusion: Based on this study, neither Ct value nor chest X-RAY has significant association with the severity of COVID-19 in children.
