    Abstract
Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in males is known as the most common pattern of "M" baldness on the scalp. Steroid reductase 5α type 2 (SRD5A2) is strongly influenced by androgens, expressed in cells of the papillary dermis in the frontal and vertex hairs of the head, beard, and genitals. Sorghum husk contains phenolic compounds which can repair inflammation around hair follicles. Objective: To determine the effect of sorghum husk extract on levels of steroid reductase 5α type-2 (SRD5A2) in male androgenetic alopecia. Subjects and Methods: This study was a pre-experimental clinical trial with a pretest-posttest design involving 33 subjects aged ≥18 years with androgenic alopecia. Recording of basic data, examination of subjects, and measurement of SRD5A2 levels before and after 9 weeks administration of 6% sorghum husk extract. Data were analyzed with the Shapiro-Wilk test and followed by the Wilcoxon test. Results: In this study, androgenetic alopecia was found mostly in the age group of 46-55 years in 13 subjects (39.4%) with a family history of suffering from AGA, most of which were in the patient's father's history of 25 people (75.7%). There was a decrease in SRD5A2 levels in subjects after being given 6% sorghum husk extract serum which was statistically significant (p<0.001). Administration of 6% sorghum husk extract serum did not cause any side effects in all study subjects. All research subjects (100%) were satisfied with the improvements they experienced. Conclusion: Sorghum husk extract serum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) moench) can reduce SRD5A2 levels in androgenic alopecia.
