    Abstract
Introduction : Xanthelasma is characterized by yellowish plaques and generally occurs on the upper eyelid (xanthelasma palpebrarum). This is due to abnormal lipid deposition in the skin of the eyelids. Xanthelasma is thought to be a sign of dyslipidemia, which is an important risk factor for atherosclerosis. The risk of developing atherosclerosis can be determined using the parameters of the plasma atherogenic index (IAP). IAP is a logarithm of the ratio of triglyceride (TG) and high density lipid (HDL) concentrations. Green tea (Camellia sinensis) has a high content of catechins. The catechins in green tea have an anti-atherosclerotic effect which can lower blood cholesterol. Objectives : To determine the effect of green tea extract capsules on the plasma atherogenic index and reducing the degree of lesions in patients with xanthelasma palpebrarum. Methods : Clinical trial with Quasi Experimental design. The experimental design used was the pretest-posttest design. 30 subjects were given green tea extract 400 mg for 8 weeks. Results : The majority of xanthelasma palpebrarum occurred in 25 women (83.3%) with an average age of 53.2 years (the youngest was 29 years and the oldest was 65 years), accompanied by a family history of xanthelasma palpebrarum in 22 people (73.3%). The mean value of IAP before administration of green tea extract capsules was 0.25 and after administration was 0.16 (p<0.001). The majority of xanthelasma palpebrarum subjects with grade I lesions totaled 17 people (56.7%). Giving green tea extract capsules did not show a decrease in the degree of xanthelasma palpebrarum lesions. Conclusion : Green tea extract capsules can reduce IAP, but have no effect on reducing the degree of xanthelasma palpebrarum lesions.
