Purun danau (Lepironia articulata) is a typical plant of swamps that included in the Cyperaceae group in taxonomy. However, the community does not yet know the enormous of potential purun. The purpose of this study is to know about the potential, physics and mechanic properties, chemical content, fiber dimensions and derivative of purun danau (L.articulata) fiber dimensions. Research methods included inventory, physics and mechanics properties, measurement of fiber dimensions derivative and observation of purun fibers anatomy structures. There are around 1.721 clumps/ha in 1 ha, so the stems’s potential is around 228.893 stems. Purun danau has a high holocellulose in roots and stems which has potential as source of fiber or celullose. The value of -cellulose in the samples of purun stems and roots are low category. The content of extractive substances that dissolve in cold water in purun stems and roots is moderate category. The content of extractive substances which dissolve in hot water, 1% NaOH and ethanol-benzene are high category. The content of purun lignin is in the moderate category for sample of purun stems and roots. Purun has a fiber length that belongs to class II, narrow lumen diameter and has a thick fiber wall.
