dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this research is to describe the use of Indonesian among Karo-speaking High School/Vocational High School students at Salapian Swakarya Private Schools in Langkat Regency, as well as the attitudes of Indonesian-speaking High School/Vocational High School students who speak Karo in Salapian Swakarya Private Schools in Langkat Regency. This study employs a sociolinguistic approach to examine the relationship between language and society, specifically the relationship between language use and the social structure of the language users' environments. Greenfield's theory is used to investigate language use, which leads to three domains of language use: the realm of kinship, the realm of friendship, and the realm of education. Garvin and Mathiot's theory is used to investigate language attitudes, which leads to three positive aspects of language attitudes, namely aspects of loyalty, aspects of pride, and aspects of awareness. This study employs both quantitative and qualitative methods. A survey method is used to collect the data. The researcher used questionnaires and direct observation to carry out their survey method. When analyzing the data, the researcher presented the responses of the respondents using average and percentage calculations. The findings of this study show that High School/Vocational School students who speak Karo language in Salapian Swakarya Private Schools, Langkat Regency, use the languages of the three domains, namely, the realm of kinship obtains the highest average score of 36.7% using Karo language, the realm of friendship obtains the highest average score of 58.8% using Indonesian language, The education sector, which uses the Indonesian language, receives the highest average score of 91.4%. In the research results of Indonesian language attitudes in Karo-speaking high school/vocational high school students in Salapian Swakarya Private Schools Langkat Regency, the aspect of loyalty is 73.3%, the aspect of pride in positive questions is 93.33% and in negative questions is 81.66%, and in the aspect of aware is 78.3%.en_US
