    Abstract
This study aims to describe the Japanese Maimai Game Phenomenon in Medan City, including an overview of this phenomenon and also the impact experienced by the players. It is motivated by the rise of games from Japan which have been successfully marketed to foreign countries, one of which is that Indonesia has people with a high interest in Japanese stuff, including Medan with the game Maimai. The approach used by the author in this study is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis techniques. The theory used in this research is phenomenology, to analyze the description of the Maimai phenomenon circulating in the Medan city and the impact on the players themselves. In the research results, it shows that the phenomenon started in 2014, until it increased in 2015, there are many relationships between various parties not far from the Japanese cultural community and the game center which is a place for players to gather to carry out activities from the Maimai community itself. The impact on the players is very diverse, which is described as positive as well as negative. Examples of these impacts are getting new relationships so that a community is formed, adding new hobbies, and negative impacts such as wasting money, spending a lot of time and tiring for the body.
