New Life Desire in Emily’s Character in A Simple Favor Movie

Abstract

This study aimed to describe Emily’s character in A Simple Favor movie and to identify the factors which cause the Emily’s character desire a new life. This research analyzed about literature. Literature is the result of telling stories, putting words together in pleasing ways, and using words to convey particular facets of the human experience. The data analysis used 4 (four) of 3 (three) components in Desire Theory they are Family, Romance, Power and Tranquility. This study used descriptive qualitative method that generates descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from people that can be observed. The data of this study were taken from the dialogues of the character Emily. The data analysis dealt with the process of data collection, data display, and drawing conclusion. This research used Desire Theory from Reiss (2000). Based on the data analysis, it was found that Emily Nelson is charming, intelligent and confident. Behind her beautiful appearance, there is a less beautiful side. Despite her charm, Emily has a very dark side to her: she is a master manipulator and a pathological liar. The factors which cause the Emily’s character desire a new life was she separated with faith who had a close bond. Faith did not keep her promise and never showed up. Not only that, when Faith finally contacted Emily, it was to blackmail her.
