dc.description.abstractThis research aims to analyze the appraisal attitude of the world news text concerning the tragic event of Kanjuruhan. Appraisal analysis provides insights into how news articles construct meaning and evaluate events to convey the writer's attitude towards the event and shape readers' understanding and emotional responses. This research uses qualitative method by applying document study and interactive model of data analysis. The sources of the data in this research were 10 (ten) international news with a total of 8.605 words from Aljazeera, BBC, CNA, CNN, Le Monde, News24, New York Post, The Guardian, Times of India and The Washington Post new sites. The results showed that there were 740 data in the news containing attitude in the form of words, phrases and clauses. All of the three types of attitude was found in the anlaysis, which consist of affect (405 items), judgement (166 items), and appreciation (169 items). The most dominant type found was the Affect with negative polarity (46.2%). It displayed the news analyzed tend to draw the negative feelings felt by the jouralists. The most dominating subtype was in/security (18.3%), followed by dis/satisfaction with a slight difference (18.2%). It meas that the depiction of feelings in the news tends to show fear, discomfort, displeasure and dissatisfaction. The analysis found that most news articles employed a predominantly evaluative language to convey the severity of the tragedy. Therefore, the research that uses appraisal framework can reveal the aspects of emotion and evaluation used in news.en_US
