dc.description.abstract | Dynamic terrain data in 3D may require a significant time to distribute. Hence, it is important to use an optimal method to increase the efficiency during the data exchange. This research proposes a new method to increase efficiency in exchanging dynamic 3D terrain data. The proposed method consists of 2 parts: the communication protocol that ensure synchronized data between server and clients and data representation that support the communication to be performed optimally. The main idea of the method is to reduce rendundancy during the data transfer. To achieve this purpose, the terrain is split into smaller parts (which is called patch). By using this method, client and server can efficiently distributes data by distributing patches that is needed to be synchronized. The method is tested on a Collaborative 3D Terrain Editor. Based on the data gathered during the test, the proposed method is capable to reduce the terrain data size up to 90% and speed up the data transfer from 20% up to 61% depending on the case and the size of the data to be distributed. Moreover, the test also shows that the compression method does not result any significant difference eventhough it uses a lower bit value to represent the height value at a certain point. | en_US |
