Diarrhea is an environmental-based infectious disease and is the second biggest
cause of child mortality in the world. In Indonesia, diarrhea is a major factor in
child mortality under the age of five and becomes a public health issue with a high
case of incidence. This study aims to analyze the influence of snakes and ladders
game media on children's knowledge and attitudes in preventing diarrhea at SDN
Kembang Tanjong District. This research employs a quantitative study with a
quasi-experimental research (quasi-experimental) using a non-equivalent control
group design. The population in the study were all students at SDN Kembang
Tanjong District with the 40 students of each group as the sample. The research
sample was taken using proportionate stratified random sampling technique and
analyzed using the Wilcoxon Test. The results of the study show that using the
snakes and ladders game media obtained an average of knowledge with the result
before (5.48) and after (7.4), while the results of the average attitude are before
(41.25) and after (44.03). The results of increasing the average knowledge before
to after that is (1.92) while the attitude (2.83). The results of the study using flip chart media obtained an average of knowledge before (5.98) and after (6.05), while
the results of the average attitude before (42.65) and after (43.48). The results of
increasing the average knowledge before to after that is (0.07) while the attitude
(0.83). The results of the Wilcoxon test obtained that the p values of knowledge and
attitudes were 0.001 and 0.002 ≤ 0.05 so that there was an effect of health education
with snakes and ladders game media on children's knowledge and attitudes in
preventing diarrhea in elementary school children in SDN Kembang Tanjong
District, then the p values of knowledge and attitudes were 0.334 and 0.059 ≥ 0.05
so that there was no effect of health education using flip-charts on children's
knowledge and attitudes in preventing diarrhea in elementary school children at
SDN Kembang Tanjong District. From these results it can be concluded that the
snakes and ladders game media is more effective in increasing knowledge about
diarrhea prevention.
