Cassava is an important food commodity and has a strategic role for people's lives
and the country's economy. Development efforts continue to be made to increase
production and productivity. This study aims to analyze the growth and production
of several types of cassava in North Sumatra based on the size of the cuttings used
as seeds. The cassava seeds used were obtained from cassava plants cultivated by
the community consisting of 4 types (genotypes), namely: Malaysian cassava (G1),
Roti (G2), Adira 1 (G3), and Genderuwo Hitam (G4). This research was conducted
at St Bunga Sedap Malam XVIII, Medan Selayang, Medan, North Sumatra from
August to December 2022. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with
2 treatment factors. The first factor is genotype (Malaysia; Roti; Adira 1 and
Genderuwo Hitam). The second factor is the size of the cuttings (1; 2; 3 and 4 buds).
The results showed that the genotypes were significantly different in parameters of
plant height at 6, 8 and 10 WAP and growth percentage. At 2 and 4 WAP, stem
diameter, number of twigs per tree, tuber weight, tuber diameter, tuber number,
and tuber length were not significantly different. The treatment of cuttings size had
no significant effect on all observed variables. There was an interaction between
genotype and cuttings size on the growth percentage parameter, but no significant
effect on plant height, stem diameter, number of twigs per tree, tuber weight, tuber
diameter, tuber number, and tuber length.
