Abstract

This Final Assignment is conducted in the Library of Politeknik Negeri Medan. Its objective is to find out the reference service in the library. The data are gathered by conducting literature review, observation, interview, and documentation. The result of the research shows that the reference in the Library of Politeknik Negeri Medan is done by applying close access system. The provided reference collection includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, periodic magazines, periodic journals, handbooks, scientific publication, online database, and lecturers' research reports The library also provides circulation service, information service, reading service in location, and copying service. Some obstacles faced by reference service in the Library of Politeknik Negeri Medan are the lack of current reference collection and the limited rooms for reference service which could influence users' comfort.
