    Abstract
Background: Chili cultivation is never free from pest and disease attacks. Efforts commonly made by farmers to reduce disturbances from pest and disease attacks usually use pesticides. Pesticides that are often used by farmers are the pyrethroid group containing the active ingredients cypermethrin and deltamethrin. The negative impact of exceeding the BMR for pyrethroid pesticides can cause seizures, ataxia, dermatitis, diarrhea, tremors and vomiting. Objective: This study aims to determine the results of the presence or absence of pesticides Pyrethroids in red chilies were tested using the GC method. Method: Red chili samples were taken from one of the supermarkets in Medan City. Determination of pyrethroid pesticide residue levels in red chilies was carried out at the UPT Pesticide Residue and Quality Testing Laboratory. PTPH North Sumatra Province. Sample extraction using acetone, dichloromethane and petroleum ether (1:1:1 v/v) in 90 ml. The extraction results were concentrated and then dissolved with isooctane and toluene (9:1 v/v) in 5 ml. The extract was then analyzed using HP-5 column gas chromatography; ECD detectors; column temperature: 2700C; injector temperature: 2900C; detector temperature: 2900C; mobile phase dinitrogen gas (30 ml/minute) with helium gas (5 ml/minute); injection volume 1 μl. Results: The results of the study showed that the red chilies tested detected cypermethrin pesticide residues with an average level of 1.579 mg/kg and the active ingredient deltamethrin was not detected. The levels obtained meet the requirements set by SNI, where the MMR of cypermethrin and deltamethrin pesticides is 2.0 mg/kg Conclusion: The levels of cypermethrin and deltamethrin pesticide residues in red chilies meet the MRLs set by SNI
