Abstract

The writing of this final project was carried out at the Archives and Library Service of Langkat Regency. This study aims to discover the activities of destroying archives at the Archives and Library Service of Langkat Regency. Data is collected from the literature study results, observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study explain that the procedure for destroying dynamic archives at the Archives and Library Service of Langkat Regency has seven stages, namely: (1) The formation of an archive appraisal committee is the formation of a team or group that has expertise in archive management and is responsible for conducting an assessment of the archives to be destroyed in the Archives and Libraries Office of Langkat Regency determined and formed by the Mayor of Langkat. (2) Selecting archives determines which ones should be kept and which should be destroyed. (3) Making a list of archives proposed for destruction is identifying and compiling a list of documents or archive records proposed for destruction. (4) Assessment by the appraisal committee is evaluating and assessing the archives proposed for destruction. (5) Request for destruction approval from the head of the creator. Request for destruction approval from the head of the archive creator is submitting a request to destroy documents that no longer have use value. (6) Determination of archives to be destroyed is the process of determining archives that have gone through the selection and assessment process to be destroyed. (7) The implementation of the destruction of archives in the Archives and Library Service of Langkat Regency by chopping using a shredder. (8) Archive Destruction Authority is the right or authority possessed by the authorized party to destroy archives that have met certain requirements and conditions. Archive destruction activities in the Archives and Libraries Office of Langkat Regency are quite good.
