Data collection techniques were carried out by distributing questionnaires through Google Forms, observation and literature study. The results showed that in general (92%), the USU Repository was helpful for study and research, developing insight, and working on the final project as a reference. The USU Repository also made it easier to find information. In general (85%), open access makes searching for information more efficient, and the information and knowledge sought can be easily accessed. Most (61%) of the types of open access that are more likely to be chosen are the types of open access that can be accessed for the entire article so that student information needs can be met. Almost half (38%) of the postgraduate students disagree with the application of closed access. This study concludes that USU postgraduate students disagree with the USU Repository closed access policy carried out by the Universitas Sumatera Utara library.
