Perilaku Pencarian Informasi Mahasiswa S-1 Perpustakaan Dan Sains Informasi Menggunakan Model Kuhlthau
Abstract
In fulfilling information needs, each user has a different way of searching for information. The purpose of this research is to determine the seeking behaviour for Bachelor students with Library and Information Sciences, University of North Sumatra. This research uses a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The population of this research was 320 active Bachelor students of Library and Information Sciences. In determining the sample using the Slovin formula, a sample of 76 students was obtained. The research results show that, 1) initiation, that students are sufficient to fulfil information seeking behaviour. Searching for information is driven by information needs, making small notes before searching for information. 2) Topic selection, that students do not fulfil information seeking behaviour. Using titles as keywords to find information and using electronic media to fulfil information needs. 3) Exploration, that students are sufficient to fulfil information seeking behaviour. Using OPAC, determining queries based on titles, using Google Scholar, and cutting terms in queries. 4) Focus formulation, that students do not fulfil information seeking behaviour. Selecting information by comparing and evaluating the information obtained. 5) Collection, that is sufficient to fulfil information seeking behaviour. Saving to a digital file (archived). 6) Presentation, that students are sufficient to fulfil information seeking behaviour. Experience feelings of satisfaction, and information needs are met. It is recommended that future researchers conduct research by comparing information seeking behaviour theories to find out which seeking behaviour theory is more dominantly used by students.
