Abstract
This study aims to unveil the role of the South Tapanuli Regional Library and Archives Office in increasing public interest in reading. This study is descriptive qualitative research. The process of selecting informants was using a purposive sampling technique. The informants in this study were the head of the library, a librarian in the field of library development, user one and user two. Data collection was done by observation, interview, and documentation. Data testing used triangulation, namely source, method, and time triangulation. The results showed that the South Tapanuli Regional Library and Archives Office has conducted competitions to increase public interest in reading, introduced libraries to the community using mobile libraries and social inclusion programs where community social activities can be carried out in libraries, such as holding computer training, bead crafts, food processing, digital marketing, and others. The South Tapanuli Regional Library and Archives Office does not hold story hours, scientific lectures, or book reviews. However, the South Tapanuli Regional Library and Archives Office does hold book summaries. Services at the South Tapanuli Regional Library and Archives Office have not been carried out optimally due to a lack of Human Resources (HR) and due to recofusing (budget reduction).
