dc.description.abstractMethyl mercaptan is a substance that has many benefits, including: as a raw material for amino acids, namely methanio which is a complement to animal food, as a raw material for making polymers, pesticides, dimethyl sulfoxide, namely as a solvent and the main function of methyl mercaptan is as an odorant in propane and natural gas. Therefore, the manufacture of methyl mercaptan from oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFPBs) needs to be done to convert the solid waste of EFPBs into usable goods. In this pre-designed methyl mercaptan manufacturing plant, the targeted production capacity is 50,000 tons/year with a plant process duration of 330 working days in one year. After a selection and scenario study of the production process of methyl mercaptan from oil palm empty fruit bunches through the gasification process, the process stages in the manufacture of methyl mercaptan can be detailed including: 1. Raw material preparation process 2. Palm empty fruit bunch gasification process 3. Syngas purification process 4. Gas synthesis process to methyl mercaptan 5. Methyl mercaptan purification process The design of the main process equipment specified in the pre-design of the plant to produce methyl mercaptan from palm empty fruit bunch raw materials through the gasification process, namely: 1. Gasification Reactor a) Reactor Temperature : 900 oC b) Reactor Pressure : 1 atm 2. Steam Reformer a) Reactor Temperature : 350 oC b) Reactor Pressure : 10 atm c) Catalyst Used : Ni 3. Gas Synthesis Reactor a) Catalyst Used : K2MoO4 b) Reactor Temperature : 350 oC c) Reactor Pressure : 10 atm 4. Absorber a) Absorber Temperature : 70 oC b) Absorber Pressure : 10 atm 5. Flash Drum 1 a) Flash Drum Temperature : -5 oC b) Flash Drum Pressure : 5 atm 6. Flash Drum 2 a) Flash Drum Temperature : 30 oC b) Flash Drum Pressure : 1 atm This methyl mercaptan manufacturing plant is planned to be established in Dumai Industrial Estate which is located at Jl. Sumatra Island, Pelintung, Subdistrict Medang Kampai, Dumai City, Riau, Indonesia with the required land area is 17,280 m2. The form of business entity of this company is planned to be a Limited Liability Company (LLC) and the form of organization is a line and staff organization with the required number of workers as many as 278 people. The results of the analysis of the economic aspects of this factory proposal are as follows:  Total Investment Capital : Rp2,866,525,251,332.29  Total Production Cost : Rp2,204,890,717,363.56  Sales Results : Rp3,075,999,847,430.40  Net Profit : Rp606,782,509,091.55  Profit Margin (PM) : 28.18 %  Break Even Point (BEP) : 20.90 %  Return on Investment (ROI) : 21.17 %  Pay Out Time (POT) : 4.72 tahun  Return on Network (RON) : 35.28 % Internal Rate of Return (IRR) : 25.46 % From the results of the analysis of economic aspects, it can be concluded that the plant for the manufacture of Methyl Mercaptan from Empty Fruit Palm Bunches (EFPBs) is feasible to establishen_US
