Usulan Perbaikan Tata Letak Fasilitas Pt. Medan Tropical Canning & Frozen Industries dengan Pendekatan Product Layout dan Metode Differential Evolution

Abstract

Facility planning is an activity to produce facilities that consist of structuring their physical elements, regulating the flow of materials, and guaranteeing the safety of workers. PT. Medan Tropical Canning & Frozen Industries is a manufacturer of canned food products, spesifically canned fish and canned fruit. This company is experiencing a general issue, which is the inability to fulfil its production targets due to inefficiencies in the flow of materials in the production process, such as cross movement, by-passing, and backtracking of materials. To solve these problems, the proposed facility’s layout is designed by using the product layout method and the differential evolution method, which reduces the total distance, total moment, and total displacement cost. According to the results, the facility layout using the differential evolution method was the chosen proposal, with total displacement distance of 599.21 meters, total displacement moment of 17,648.45 meters/month, and total displacement cost of IDR 6,379,156.80/month. Over a 5-year period, the proposed facility's layout was able to boost productivity, as evidenced by an increase in the attainment of production targets of 29.11% for canned fish products and 32.18% for canned fruit products
