Pembuatan Dan Karakterisasi Adsorben Berbasis Zeolit Alam Pahae dan Karbon Aktif Cangkang Kemiri untuk Penjernihan Air Gambut
Abstract
Adsorbents based on pahae natural zeolite and hazelnut shell activated carbon have been made to purify peat water into clean water that can meet the requirements of clean water quality. Zeolite as matrix and hazelnut shell activated carbon as filler were made with a size of 75 μm (200 mesh). The zeolite matrix was chemically activated using 10% KOH solution and dried at 100°C for 1 hour while the hazelnut shell activated carbon filler was carbonized at 300°C for 2 hours. Adsorbents were printed using a Hydraulic Press with a mass load given of 6 tons for 10 minutes, with variations in the composition of natural zeolite pahae: hazelnut shell activated carbon, namely 100%: 0%, 0%: 100%, 95%: 5%, 90%: 10%, 85%: 15%, 80%: 20%, 75%: 25%. Then physically activated at 600°C for 2 hours. The adsorbents were characterized for their physical properties to determine porosity and water absorption, mechanical properties to determine hardness. XRF to show the elemental content contained in natural zeolite. SEM-EDX to determine the surface morphology of the adsorbent. XRD to determine the crystal structure formed and application to peat water. The most optimal adsorbent for the physical test was the 75%:25% composition sintered at 600°C with a porosity value of 57.26%, water absorption of 56.70%. While the hardness value is most optimal in the 85%: 15% composition adsorbent with a value of 23.47 Kg. XRF test was able to increase the purity of natural zeolite from 67.5% to 69.3%. SEM test shows the particle size or pores of the adsorbent is not uniform. EDX test shows the analysis of elements contained in the adsorbent. XRD test shows the resulting diffraction pattern is amorphous. The application test results show that the adsorbent is able to reduce color, turbidity, Fe and Mn levels and increase the Ph value.
