    Abstract
    The area of Bawomataluo Village, Fanayama Subdistrict, South Nias Regency, is a traditional tourism village that has in addition to beautiful natural tourism potential and a highly interesting and unique local culture that is still being developed and maintained. The development of this potential is carried out in accordance with the socio-cultural characteristics of the community and local communities as the main actors. Development of a local wisdom-based tourism village is a strategic effort in maintaining the integrity of the local culture of the community and building the community. The objective of this research is to analyze and describe development of a local wisdom-based tourism village, how local wisdom exists within the village, is used in tourism development, as well as a description of the village, tourism potential, environment, community conditions, management, and community participation in development. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method by describing and interpreting all the data and information obtained in the field. The data are collected through process of interview, documentation, observation, literature study and are analyzed with stages, reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Validation and rehabilitation tests are carried out using a triangulation process. Informants in this research are village heads, traditional leaders, heads of tourism offices and village communities. The research results show that development of the Bawomataluo area is based on local wisdom, where there is an important role of traditional leaders of Si'ulu and Si'ila as a form of local wisdom in the development, role of customary norms and humum (Fondrako), contribution of the use of tribe languages (Li Niha) in development tourism village. Furthermore, there is collaboration between local. government and local communities in tourism development, and the important role of Bumdes (Village­ own Enterprises) which plays an important role in tourism development such as organizing, promoting tourism, providing tourism awareness and utilizing community resources by involving community participation in tourism activities.
