    Abstract
High rainfall and the inability of drainage to accommodate rainwater have been blamed for causing flooding. Especially in the Jalan Pasundan area, the problem raised was motivated by the frequent occurrence of floods and puddles of rainwater in the area, and especially during the rainy season. Due to this problem, an evaluation of the capacity of the drainage channel will be carried out to determine the capacity of the drainage channel to accommodate flood discharge. This research began in the even semester of the 2022-2023 academic year and the case study was carried out in the Jalan Pasundan area in Medan Petisah District, Medan City. Data collection in this research is primary data in the form of existing drainage system data and flow condition data and secondary data in the form of maximum daily rainfall data from BMKG Sampali, BMKG Helvetia and BMKG Tuntungan. In this study, the Log Pearson III Distribution was used and the rainfall intensity value obtained using the mononobe formula for a 5 year return period was 127.803 mm/hour. From the results of the evaluation of the planned flood discharge for a 5 year return period using the rational method, Qr1 = 3,039 m3/sec and Qr2 = 2,750 m3/sec. By calculating the existing channel capacity, we get Qek1 = 1.608 m3 /sec and Qek2 = 1.067m3/sec. Based on the results of the comparison of the channel discharge and the plan discharge above, it can be seen that the existing drainage channels 1 and 2 cannot accommodate flood discharge, causing pools of water to come out of the channel and inundate the surrounding area. Overcoming this can be done by re-planning the drainage channels
