In the continuously evolving digital era, Visible Light Communication (VLC) has emerged as an innovative communication method that utilizes visible light to transmit data. VLC offers the potential for high-speed data transfer, security, and energy efficiency. However, the success of visible light communication is greatly influenced by the use of convex lenses to focus light and environmental factors such as ambient light and weather conditions.
This research aims to deepen the understanding of how environmental factors affect the quality of communication in VLC systems. To achieve this goal, the research employs an experimental method involving the development of a VLC prototype and testing under various controlled environmental conditions, including external light and air pollution. The measured parameters include Bit Error Rate (BER), noise, Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), and sound intensity at varying measurement distances ranging from 0.5 m to 4 m.
The resulting VLC prototype can transmit both text and audio information. In this study, the transmission involved 1000 characters of text or 8000 bits at a speed of 400 bps, along with the transmission of audio signals at a frequency of 300 Hz. The prototype in this research achieved the best average noise value of 1.8 dB during nighttime with clean air, while the worst average noise value was 12.1 dB during dusty daytime conditions. Furthermore, the highest observed BER value was 1.81 x 10-2 at a distance of 4 meters during daytime measurements in dusty conditions
