dc.description.abstract | Secondary metabolite compounds of the steroids, alkaloids, flavonoids, triterpenoids, tannins and saponins are compounds that act as an antifertility. Zanthoxylum acanthopodium contains flavonoids, alkaloids, pyranoquinoline alkaloids, terpenes, quaternary isoquinoline alkaloids, and other various ligands. The effects of those compounds are often seen in tissues especially in the kidney organ. This study was conducted to analyze the effect of the antifertility methanol extract of andaliman fruit (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium) to the morphology and histology of the kidneys of mice. The research was designed by a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consist of 5 treatments which were negative control; positive control (given synthetic hormonal contraceptive preparations containing ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel orally at a dose of 0,2 mg/kgBW); and given an andaliman fruit with 3 different doses (100, 200 and 400 mg/kgBW). In this study, 25 female mice were used. The observation parameters of the study were kidney morphology including the weight and the color also the kidney histology such as the glomerular diameter, the width of bowman capsule space, the thickness of proximal and the distal tubular of the epithelial cells. The results showed that the administration of methanol extract of andaliman fruit at doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kgBW did not affect kidney morphology (weight and color) and also given no effect on the kidney histology. It is concluded that andaliman extract potentially can be act as contraceptive because up to 400 mg/kgBW of the andaliman extract is still safe for the kidneys | en_US |
