dc.description.abstract | Wasting is a state of acute malnutrition characterized by a mismatch of body weight for height or a Z-score <-2 sd. Cause of occurrence wasting are inadequate food intake and low maternal knowledge. Toddler handling wasting this can be done by providing additional food (PMT) based on local food that is high in protein such as meatballs which are substituted for tuna and moringa leaves. The aim of the study was to analyze changes in body weight before and after intervention in toddlers wasting in Percut Sei Tuan District. The research design used was a nonrandomized pre and posttest quasi-experimental design, the sample in this study were 38 wasting toddlers who were divided into 2 groups, namely group 1 was given PMT meatballs and nutrition education and group 2 was given nutrition education. Intervention giving meatballs as much as 60 g and carried out for 4 weeks. . The statistical test used an independent sample t test to determine the effect of the intervention on weight gain in both groups. The results showed that the average toddler weight gain in group 1 was 0.79 kg compared to group 2 of 0.37 kg, with a significance value of p = 0.001, meaning that there was a significant difference between the difference in toddler weight gain in group 1 with group 2. Conclusion, providing additional food for meatballs which are substituted for tuna and moringa leaves as well as nutrition education can increase toddler's weightwasting. Suggestions, it is hoped that the meatball substitution for tuna and moringa leaves can be used as an alternative in local food processing for toddlers wasting. | en_US |
