dc.description.abstractThe pre-designed plant for making linear alkylbenzene sulfonate from alkylbenzene using the sulfonation process has a production capacity of 1,200 tons/year and operates for 330 days a year. The main process in the pre-plant design consists of three stages, namely the raw material preparation stage, the sulfonation and neutralization reaction stage, and the purification stage. In the sulfonation and neutralization stages, 2 continuous stirred tank reactor units were used which operated at a temperature of 55°C for 1 hour. The amount of alkylbenzene required to reach annual production capacity is 108.1442 kg/hour. The specific task completed was the detailed engineering design of the reactor for the sulfonation process. The reactor that has been designed has the following specifications: • Number of Reactors: 1 unit • Tank shell height: 1.016 m • Tank head height: 0.169 m • Reactor shell material: Carbon steel SA-285 grade C • Konis height: 0.111 m • Total tank height: 1,589 m • Reactor shell thickness: 3/16 in • Reactor head thickness: 3/16 in • Stirrer diameter: 0.204 m • Stirrer distance: 0.204 m • Blade width: 0.041 m • Bulkhead width: 0.051 m • Blade length: 0.051 m • Jacket diameter: 0.876 m • Jacket height: 0.892 m • Area traversed: 0.299 m • Jacket thickness: 3/16 in The factory for making linear alkylbenzene sulfonate from alkylbenzene using the sulfonation process is planned to be established in Sunggal District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, with a total factory area of 4,900 m2. The water requirement at this factory is supplied from the Deli River as much as 51,242,409 kg/hour. The planned form of company organization is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line organizational structure, and a total of 123 employees. The results of the economic analysis on the pre-design of this factory are as follows: 1. Capital Investment (CI): IDR 90,502,363,451 2. Total Cost (TC): IDR 49,733,566,945 3. Profit Margin (PM): 43.41 % 4. Break Even Point (BEP): 42.11% 5. Return On Investment (ROI): 30.81% 6. Pay Out Time (POT): 3 years 2 months 7. Return On Network (RON): 51.35% 8. Internal Rate of Return (IRR): 26.42% Based on the results of the economic analysis, it can be concluded that a linear alkylbenzene sulfonate manufacturing plant from alkylbenzene using the sulfonation process is feasible to be establisheden_US
