Kajian tentang Penggunaan Aplikasi Telegram untuk Menonton Film Illegal di Kalangan Mahasiswa Universitas Sumatera Utara: Praktik, Persepsi dan Identitas

Abstract

Watching is one of human's tertiary needs, with the aim of entertainment that is easily accessible, especially with advances in technology. Various viewing applications can help us to access films, one of which is Telegram. Since appearing in 2013, there are now more than 500 million Telegram users. It turns out that the feature on Telegram that can watch films is widely used to watch films illegally, namely watching pirated films.The method used in this research is to use a quantitative approach method located in the city of Medan with a case study of 348 students from the University of North Sumatra by distributing questionnaires whose validity and reality have been tested using purposive sampling techniques. The results of this research analysis use the Spearman correlation test which relates to the 3 variables of practice, perception and identity items which have a significant value of 0.000<0.05, which means that there is a relationship between each indicator of the characteristic variable and the three items, namely practice, perception, identity, which means H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted or there is a positive and significant relationship between the characteristics of students at USU and the way they apply their knowledge about telegrams using practices, perceptions and brand academic identity. So the results of this research are to find out how USU FISIP students use Telegram as a medium for watching films and see their effectiveness regarding the importance of Telegram for students, followed by the position of the student group as a community group with the most active Telegram users and they can not only use the application. This is a means of streaming film media, they can also introduce this application as a learning medium on campus and also introduce their identity status as users of the Telegram application. And then the reason the researchers took samples from students was because students were the largest users of the Telegram application.
