dc.description.abstract | Palm seeds require a relatively long time to germinate because they have a thick
and hard skin structure. Under natural conditions, palm seeds only germinate
after 4-6 months due to the hard seed coat, which prevents water imbibition into
the seed. So a dormancy breaking technique using an eco enzyme solution is
needed. This research was carried out at the Seed Technology Laboratory,
Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara at an altitude of ±32 m above
sea level, in January-May 2023, using a Randomized Block Design with 2
treatment factors. The first factor is the concentration of the solution with 4 levels,
namely concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The second factor is the
soaking time for eco enzyme with 3 levels, namely 24 hours, 48 hours and 72
hours. The parameters observed were seed water uptake, seed growth capacity,
germination test, germination rate, vigor index, fresh weight of sprouts, dry
weight of sprouts. The research results showed that a 50% concentration of eco
enzyme solution could increase the dry weight of sprouts, while increasing the
soaking time for eco enzyme could increase seed water uptake, reduce seed
growth capacity and increase the percentage of seeds that did not grow. The
interaction between concentration and soaking time in the eco enzyme solution
had no significant effect on all parameters. | en_US |
