Pengaruh Financial Knowledge dan Internal Locus of Control terhadap Personal Financial Management Behaviour Mahasiswa (Studi pada Mahasiswa/i di Kota Medan)

Abstract

Students are a part of society that is involved in the use finance to be used for daily consumption levels. The consumptive and instantaneous lifestyle make students often spend money to buy anything they don't really need. While problems in holding money are most experienced by students, especially those who do not live in the same house as their parents. This is because students are in a period of transition from dependence to financial independence. This study aims to analyze the effect of financial knowledge and internal locus of control on personal financial management behavior in students in Medan city. The method in this research is quantitative. The sampling technique used is a non probability sampling method with a accidental sampling technique. The population in this study were students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra using 100 respondents. Data analysis methods used are validity test, reliability test, classic assumption test, multiple linear regression analysis, and hypothesis testing. The results of this study partially (F test) state that financial knowledge and internal locus of control have a significant effect on personal financial management behavior. The coefficient of determination test shows that there is a positive influence between Financial Knowledge and Internal Locus of Control on Personal Financial Management Behavior in students on Medan City with an R value of 0,543 or 54,3%. Through the coefficient of determination R square, it is also known that the Financial Knowledge and Internal Locus of Control variables contribute 54.3% to the Personal Financial Management Behavior variable while the remaining 45,7% is influenced by other variables not discussed in this study.
