Ocean wave energy is one of several renewable energy sources found in the ocean. The energy in the oscillatory ocean waves can be used to drive a machinery and then convert that energy into other forms. A number of devices have been and are being developed to extract wave energy for conversion into electricity. Among those devices that have been successfully built and operated are Oscillating Water Columns or OWCs. There are two types of models in the development for performance optimization of OWC geometry design, namely conventional shape (L-OWC) and U-OWC. Previous research has developed a numerical wave tank to simulate wave behavior and its interaction as a wave energy converter using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Two types of OWC geometry shapes are modeled in a tank whose dimensions are based on previous research. Simulations were conducted using different wave height and frequency variations of 0.122 m (0.57 Hz), 0.096 m (0.51 Hz), 0.088 m (0.46 Hz), and 0.159 m (0.385 Hz). The simulation results show that the water column experiences maximum resonance with wave phase difference of 90o and the natural frequency of the water column is close to the incident wave frequency. After modeling the OWC structure for Belawan water conditions, it is concluded that the L-OWC structure geometry is more compatible than the U-OWC structure based on its hydrodynamic efficiencyen_US
