    Abstract
The research focused on the use of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic waste in the formulation of self-compacting mortar (SCM) as fine aggregate substitution. An experimental study was conducted to determine the flowability and compressive and tensile strength of self-compacting mortar (SCM) with different proportions of sand substitution by waste plastic. In this study, the data collection method used is structured observation method. The researcher will plan the mixing of normal mortar using addictive additives with sand substitution using PET plastic waste. For testing, the test specimens used are cylinders with a diameter of 10 cm and a height of 20 cm. The compressive and tensile strength tests on the mortar will be conducted at the Concrete Materials and Engineering Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering, University of North Sumatra. After the molding process, the samples will be cured or treated under certain conditions for periods of 3 days, 7 days, and 28 days before testing with variations in substitution of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 50%. The addition of waste plastic has a beneficial effect on the workability of SCM. This can be seen from the Slump flow and L-shape box test results, which show an increase in value as the percentage of waste plastic increases. In contrast, the V-Funnel test results showed a decrease in value as the percentage of waste plastic increased. The addition of plastic waste has a positive effect on the compressive and tensile strength of SCM mortar with an optimum compressive strength value of 28.77 MPa and 9.6 MPa at 10% plastic waste variation in 28 days
