Analisis Pengaruh Aliran Fluida pada Oscillating Water Column (Owc) Tipe Konvensional

Abstract

From the several types of renewable energy that have been discovered, ocean wave energy is one possible option and OWC is an ocean wave energy converter. The oscillating water column (OWC) uses differences in air pressure due to the rise and fall of sea wave water level entering the OWC water column to drive a turbine. This research aims to determine the effect of fluid flow in conventional-type OWCs on the effectiveness of the water column in producing energy. The research used quantitative methods and numerical simulation (CFD) in the form of software, named waves2foam. The parameters observed are water surface elevation, speed, and fluid pressure. The research results show that viscosity does not significantly influence the performance of the OWC water column, while the vortex formed significantly influences the effectiveness of the OWC water column performance. Vortex causes a decrease in water level in the OWC water column and reduces the energy produced. Then, modifications were made to the design of the front mouth of the OWC column to reduce the vortex effect and increase efficiency in producing energy. The research results show that modifying the design of the front mouth of the OWC column from a straight shape to a bell shape reduces energy losses that occur due to the presence of vortexes
