    Abstract
This research entitled "Interpersonal Communication of Mothers in Preventing Child Sexual Abuse in the Medan Helvetia District, Medan City." The objectives of this research are to determine the interpersonal communication of mothers in preventing child sexual abuse in the Medan Helvetia District, Medan City, to identify the barriers to interpersonal communication of mothers in preventing child sexual abuse in the Medan Helvetia District, Medan City, and to find out how to overcome these barriers. The concepts in this research include communication, interpersonal communication, sexual education, the role of mothers in the family, sexual abuse, the definition of a child, sexual abuse of children, and family communication. The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive method. This research involved 5 (five) informants, consisting of 4 main informants and 1 triangulation informant. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations, and literature reviews. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The results of this research indicate that the interpersonal communication carried out by the informants in preventing child sexual abuse is not intensive. Communication is only done at certain times. Some aspects of sexual education are not conveyed to the children by the informants because they consider it taboo. The barriers faced when engaging in interpersonal communication include children asking many questions about things they do not yet understand. Children do not understand due to a lack of sexual education provided by mothers. The four informants also have limited knowledge of sexual education, making it difficult for them to answer their children's questions. Regarding what mothers know, they choose not to disclose it due to embarrassment and taboos associated with discussing sexual education with their children. The approach used to overcome these barriers is that the informants choose to let their children learn about sexual education from their school environment and their surroundings.
