Evaporation is an important phenomenon in the field of heat and mass transfer. Many applications include the process of evaporating water from a container into the surrounding air, such as in the fields of hydrology, agronomy, meteorology, in swimming pools, cooling ponds, water purification plants and the chemical and other industries. Despite the many applications that require water evaporation in various aspects both in nature and industry, there is still no exact equation for the rate of water evaporation. Both in the past and the present, many experimental correlations and theoretical expressions have been proposed to find the rate of evaporation from the water surface to the surrounding air by researchers. However, there are still differences between the expressions coined by researchers. This research will compare the coefficients in evaporation rate proposed by Carrier (1918), Himus and Hinchley (1924), Carl Rohwer (1931), Lurie and Michailoff (1936) and Smith (1994) with the results of experimental testing. This research aims to determine the smallest percentage error in the theoretical seawater evaporation rate with experimental test results. The results showed that the evaporation rate equation at 0.5 m/s and 1 m/s proposed by Carl Rohwer (1931) has the smallest percentage error of 7.34% and 8.3%. The smallest percent error of the evaporation rate equation at 1.5 m/s and 2 m/s is the equation proposed by Inan (2017) which is 7.73% and 10.92%.en_US
