Pengaruh Aplikasi Boron Trioksida (B2O3) terhadap Pertumbuhan dan Produksi Bawang Merah (Allium ascalonicum L.) Varietas Bali Karet

Abstract

Shallots are one of the superior vegetable commodities that contribute significantly to the economic development of a region. The production of shallots will increase if the needs for macro and micro nutrients are balanced. This research aims to evaluate the appropriate dosage of boron trioxide (B2O3) for the growth and production of shallots. The study was conducted in Simpang Selayang Village, Medan Tuntungan District, Medan, North Sumatra, at an altitude of approximately 45 meters above sea level (masl) from April to July 2023. The research utilized a Non-Factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with five treatment levels of boron trioxide (B2O3): 0 kg/ha, 2 kg/ha, 4 kg/ha, 6 kg/ha, and 8 kg/ha. The results of the study showed that boron trioxide application significantly influenced plant height at 2-6 weeks after planting (WAP), the number of leaves at 2-5 WAP, the number of shoots, and the harvest age. However, it did not significantly affect the wet weight of bulbs per clump, wet weight of bulbs per plot, selling weight of bulbs per clump, selling weight of bulbs per plot, bulb diameter, and weight loss of bulbs. The treatment with a boron trioxide dosage of 8 kg/ha resulted in the tallest plants at 6 WAP, reaching 39.30 cm, the highest number of leaves at 5 WAP, with 14.55 leaves, and the number of shoots was 3.35 shoots.
