    Abstract
Background: Striae distensae (SD) or stretch marks still present challenges in treatment. Papaya (Carica papaya L.) is a plant that is widely cultivated and has many benefits in Indonesia. Papaya seeds contain alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids and tannins which play a role in repairing striae distensae through anti-inflammatory mechanisms as well as increasing fibroblast activity and collagen production which plays a role in improving wound healing. Objective: To determine the effect of 4% papaya (Carica papaya L.) seed extract cream on striae distensae. Subject and Methods: This study is a quasi experimental clinical trial with a pretestpostest research design on 30 subjects with striae distensae. Diagnosis was confirmed by history and clinical evaluation using the Imam, Nelva, Alviera score (INA score) before and after administration of 4% papaya seed extract cream on femuralis region and combination of 4% papaya seed extract cream and 0,1% tretinoin cream on gluteus region at week 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8. Adverse effects were recorded during the study and satisfaction levels were assessed at the end. Results: The majority of subjects ages ranged from 18-25 years (83.3%). There was a significant decrease in INA scores in striae distensae, both after being given 4% papaya seed extract cream or combined with 0.1% tretinoin cream for 8 weeks (p<0.001). In striae distensae after being given 4% papaya seed extract cream compared with 4% papaya seed extract cream combined with 0.1% tretinoin cream, there was no significant difference (p>0.05). Of the total 30 subjects, none experienced side effects. Based on the level of satisfaction, all subjects feel satisfied. Conclusion: The use of 4% papaya seed extract cream can improve the appearance of striae distensae without side effects and the all subjects feel satisfied.
