Background
Atherosclerosis plays an important role in the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndrome.
Inflammation plays a causal role in atherosclerosis. Interleukin-6 is important to assess
risk for acute coronary syndrome. Interleukin-6 is a marker of local inflammation of
coronary plague and peripheral blood circulation causing plaque instability and rupture.
The SYNTAX scoring has correlation with the severity of coronary artery stenosis.
Aim of Study
To determine the relationship between Interleukin-6 levels and coronary lesion based on
the SYNTAX score in patients with acute coronary syndrome.
Methods
This study is a cross sectional study of 45 acute coronary syndrome patients who treated
at H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan (February 2023 – May 2023). Examination of
the Interleukin-6 levels was carried out using by the Electrochemiluminescent
Immunoassay (ECLIA) method (Cobas e 411). The extent of the Coronary lesion was
calculated based on the SYNTAX score of the coronary angiography and validated by a
cardiologist.
Results
Most of the subjects were male, amounting to 39 people (86,7 %). The mean age of the
subjects was 54,89. Most of the subject experienced STEMI amounted to 28 people (62,2
%). The median Interleukin-6 level was 19,22 pg/mL. The median SYNTAX score was
13,00. Using the Spearman correlation test, it was found that a significant
association/correlation between Interleukin-6 and SYNTAX score , r = 0,343 (p = 0.021)
Conclusions
There was a significant association between Interleukin-6 levels and coronary artery
lesion based on SYNTAX score with acute coronary syndrome.
