    Abstract
Background: Meningiomas represent the most prevalent primary tumors of the central nervous system (CNS). Their clinical manifestations vary depending on both the location and size of the meningioma. Consequently, some patients may be asymptomatic while others may present with neurological deficits. Objective: This research aimed to explore the association between brain MRI characteristics and the chief complaints of intracranial meningioma patients at H. Adam Malik Hospital, Medan, from 2016 to 2021. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional observational study was conducted to assess the relationship between brain MRI characteristics and the primary symptoms of patients with intracranial meningiomas. Results: A total of 68 participants met the study criteria. The average age was 44.54 ± 11.25 years, with an age range of 13 to 73 years. Female constituted a higher proportion. Predominant MRI characteristics included T1WI isointense, T2WI hyperintense, homogenous post-contrast enhancement, and the presence of perifocal edema. The average size was 5.61 ± 1.69 cm, with the parasagittal location being the most common. The most frequent primary complaints were visual disturbances, headaches, and limb weakness, with 2-6 months of onset. The WHO grading most frequently observed was WHO grade I, with being meningothelial meningioma. There was a correlation between tumor location and primary complaints: visual disturbances were most frequently associated with sphenoid wing meningiomas, while limb weakness was predominantly observed in parasagittal meningiomas. Conclusion: there is a correlation between tumor location and primary complaints.
