    Abstract
    This research is entitled "The Existence and Function of Gandang Tambua in the Bridal Mangarak Event at the Minang BM3 in Medan City. Gandang Tambua was previously used as an accompanist at the bridal parade at BM3 Medan City. Minangkabau is one of the largest and most famous tribes in Indonesia located in the middle of Sumatra Island, most of which is included in West Sumatra Province. Tambua or drum i one of the cultural arts of West Sumatra which is often used to enliven traditional events such as weddings. This traditional art is the performing arts of Tambua Tasa music. The art of Tambua tasa is also used in the Minang BM3, Medan city. In BM3 it is also known as a realm or gathering place for the Minang people of North Sumatra. This musical instrument lives and develops in the Pariaman area. Gandang Tambua consists of several doubles with an unlimited number, at least 2 or more with the accompaniment of taJempong pacik, and sarunai (wind instrument). The author is interested in knowing the existence and function of Gandang Tambua music in the city of Medan. To answer this research, the author uses theory. According to Alan P. Merriam in The Anthropology of Music, he explains that there is a difference in meaning between use and function. Gandang Tambua is often used in various Minangkabau rituals and traditions, including wedding ceremonies, as part of its cultural heritage and traditions. This instrument acts as a musical accompaniment in various cultural events, such as traditional dances or art performances. Gandang Tambua is also a symbol of the culture and identity of the Minangkabau people, connecting the younger generation with their cultural heritage. This research focuses on Gandang tambua, a traditional musical instrument from Minangkabau culture which is used in various traditional events, especially at weddings in BM3 Medan City. Gandang tambua has a function as musical accompaniment in various cultural events and is an important part of Minangkabau cultural heritage.
