    Abstract
    This research discusses the analysis of the position of women in the division of inheritance in Japanese families. This research aims to find out the position of women in equal rights and obligations and how the position of women in the distribution of inheritance in Japan in the past to the present both in terms of culture and law. The subject of this research is the Onoda family. The Onoda family represents a Japanese family in modern times. The research methods used to collect data include qualitative methods, interview methods, and literature study methods. The data collected came from interviews with one of the Onoda family members and from literature studies in the form of books, journals, and articles as supporting data. From this research, it is concluded that the equality of rights and obligations of men and women is getting better, including in terms of the distribution of inheritance in the eyes of the law and society. Inheritance law and culture have changed from the past to the present, which has also changed the position and role of women in society and the family. Starting with the traditional family system adopted by Japanese society in the past, which excluded the role of women in it, until the influx of western cultural influences and the advancement of thinking about gender equality. It made a big change in the order of life of Japanese society until now. This research in the future is expected to be used as a referencefor similar research in the future to understand the distribution of inheritance in Japanese families in the future.
