    Abstract
The Deli River Basin is a watershed that covers part of the area located in Karo Regency, Deli Serdang and Medan City. The Deli watershed has an area of ± 47,302.10 Ha with its headwaters in Deli Serdang (Sibolangit) and Karo Regencies and empties into Belawan (Medan). Deli watershed has a very important function as a water supplier in most parts of Medan City. The upstream Deli watershed is a catchment area (recharge area) which is actually vulnerable to the threat of erosion and landslides. While in the downstream area is very vulnerable to flooding. The vulnerability of the downstream part of the Deli watershed to flooding was triggered by land damage that occurred in the upper reaches of the Deli river. Various land use activities in the Deli watershed area such as residential, agricultural and industrial activities are estimated to have affected river water quality. Unwise land use by people living in the Deli watershed area will cause various ecosystem disturbances, including disruption of watershed water systems resulting in flooding and erosion. The purpose of this study is how the characteristics of Deli River water quality based on physical, chemical and biological parameters. As well as how the status of water pollution in the Deli River based on IP, CCME and WQI methods. This research will be carried out in June-July 2023 in the Deli Watershed, North Sumatra Province. Water quality testing was carried out in two locations, namely at the research location directly (in situ) and at the Center for Environmental Health Engineering and Disease Control (BTKLPP) Class I Medan (ex situ). The results of research carried out by BOD, COD, phosphate and Colifom parameters that exceed the standard value of river water quality according to PP No. 22 of 2021. The spatial water quality status of the Deli River, North Sumatra Province based on the CCME method is Moderate-Good, based on the NSF-WQI method in Medium status and based on the IP method in the Lightly Polluted category with comparisons to river water quality standards.
